The Welcome Wagon
Nathan's POV
Me and Val finally got settled into this li'l bitty crib. Honestly, I hated the place the moment I laid eyes on it. It looked like one of them bandos on the corner on the south side, all boarded up... Minus the boards on the windows. But I wasn't really worried about it because now we could finally say we had something that belonged to us.
We've been spending a lot of time getting to know the city... We went on a brunch bar/gallery crawl or something like that Sunday afternoon. (Val's always been into that bougie, Sex & the City type lifestyle lol) It was dope. I just gotta remind myself to watch how many drinks shorty orders... She's a lightweight. [Chuckles]
Valentina: [Sprawled across my bed] Naaaate.
Me: What's up?
Valentina: We should invite our people over now that we're settled in here or whatever. They'd be glad to see the place!
Me: Girl your mom gon think we got married or something. [Laughs]
Valentina: Yeah she'd love that... ANYWAY! I'ma call her right now.
Me: Oh, you were for real... Well, alright. I guess I'll cook something.
Valentina: [Squeaks] What'chu cookin'!
Me: Probably some lamb chops or somethin'... [Sighs & rubs stomach]
Valentina: Oooh! Fancy!
Me: Aye. [Shrugs] I gotta impress ya mama!
I was a little reluctant to grab my phone simply because I really didn't think she was serious. But once I realized she was, I had to think about the type of people my parents are. Being around them for long periods of time can make a nigga uncomfortable. My dad is... Simply put, my father's an asshole. He's extra, and that nigga is like tap water; UNFILTERED. My mother, never been able to speak up when dude's around just sits there passive-aggressively like it's not happening, and then sometimes me and dude have to share words which are never pleasant.
My mom met Val when we were in the eleventh grade taking our SATs, and since then has said that she'd hope I'd end up with her, or at least a girl like her. Heh. (Little do she know.)
A couple hours later while we were sitting on the couch chilling watching re-runs of Blank Ink Crew after I had taken all the food out of the oven and sat it to cool down, our house ended up filled with loud, excited family members tripping about how they haven't seen us, and how long it's been. Val's mom, little brother & sister showed up first and as expected, Mama's impressed with the way the kitchen is smelling and how "homey" the crib feels. I give her lil brother (who's like eight) a hug. I reach my hand out to her sister (who's like sixteen), and shorty snubs me... COOL. Valentina glares at her, screeches something at her about her attitude and then apologizes on her behalf... It's cool.
[[ I'll continue the rest of the chapter in a few guys, my eyes are tired and I'm writing until I can't anymore. Lol]]
